All the Little Lights

I’m tired, friend. We are nearly mid-year 2025, and I feel pummeled. But there are lights in the distance. I don’t want you to feel like I’m completely alone or at a loss. I have what I need, and if I feel like there is something missing, I typically know where to find it.

One of the best things I’m doing amid grief and overwhelm is to plan for joy. In the face of everything, I am choosing to plan for good things. Too often, we hand over the responsibility of joy to someone else. Don’t do that. Plan for joy, even if the plans involve only you. What you love and what makes you excited is important. Make time for the things that light you up and help you dream of a better future.

Your dreams matter, and they give other people permission to prioritize and follow through for themselves. It’s like a candle you light for yourself. You can finally see through the darkness and find your next steps.

Here are the candles I’m lighting in my own life:

  • Vacation. We’re planning for a trip in the summer. It involves swinging on a rope swing.

  • Writing.

  • Crocheting.

  • Music. I love this song by Jon Bellion:

  • Exercise. I’ve needed it. It’s helping.

  • Mom’s Morning Out. Once a month. It’s the best.

  • This is Us

  • Dancing. I love watching people dance. Trying to figure out where I need to go with that.

  • Reading.

  • Smoked salmon

  • Walking

  • Crying

  • Saracasm

These are the tiny lights that are paving the way for me. I’d love to hear about yours.
